No shortage of wood in Ukraine

Sivets attributes this to the fact that specialized enterprises are technologically unable to process the proposed amount of wood, as they need substantial retooling

There is no wood deficit in Ukraine. The domestic forestry meets full production requirements of woodworking enterprises, UkrInform reported. At the same time, he said, the technical raw material put up in auction is not fully purchased. "Based on the analysis of special auctions for the sale of unprocessed timber in the first and second quarters of this year, I can state that the volume of wood that was actually bought by tile and plywood companies is 81 percent and 93 percent, respectively," head of the office in charge, Viktor Sivets noted.

He attributed this to the fact that specialized enterprises are technologically unable to process the proposed amount of wood, as they need substantial retooling. In this regard, the decision was passed to raise prices at the auction of the third quarter by an average of 35 percent to UAH 235 per cubic meter, Sivets said, adding that even this increase does not reach the European prices.

"If representatives of the timber industry do not buy again a full amount of the proposed raw wood, we will have the opportunity to sell the remaining volume in the foreign market at prices on the average 35 percent higher than the domestic prices," the forestry department head said.
