Ukrainian timber sector held leading position in production rates within 6 months in 2004
Ukrainian industrial production increased 11.2% in June 2004 compared with the prior period in 2003, while within 6 months in 2004 industrial production increased 15.9% compared with the prior period in 2003 (+12.6%), according to the governmental statement.
National statistics committee announced the production growth of 12.4% a year ago. Industrial production increased 3.8% in June 2004 compared with May 2004.
The most drastic growth within 6 months in 2004 was witnessed in timber and timber products production – up 45.8%, pulp and polygraphy industry – up 32.6%, machinery building – up 23.6% and building materials manufacture – up 18.8%.
According to the governmental forecasts, Ukraine may boost industrial production by 14.0% by the end of the year. The government suggested a slight declined in industrial production within the latter 6 months in 2004 due to the unfavorable conditions on the market, while Ukraine’s exports are mostly composed by metal products.
In 2003 due to the high demand for metal products Ukraine increased industrial production by 15.8% in 2003 compared with 7% increase in 2002.
