Polish Barlinek S.A. to build a sawmill worth EUR 40 million in Ukraine

Polish Barlinek S.A. intends to build a sawmill worth EUR 40 million in Ukraine, Warsaw business magazine reported.

The company planned to invest EUR 7 million first, however a total of EUR 40 million were required and 500 workers were contracted in order to meet the terms imposed by the special economic zone in the North-West of Poland.

The enterprise in Barlinek is to be launched in 2006, the company is considering the possibility to build the sawmill in Ukraine that will supply sawn timber to the Polish enterprise for floor covering production.

In early 2004 an enterprise to produce floor covering worth EUR 24.383 million was launched in Barlinek in early 2004. The enterprise is expected to produce 4.3 million cub m of floor covering and occupy the 3rd position among the leading European producers.

According to the information provided by Barlinek S.A., the company accounts for 70% of Polish market of floor coverings and is the only European company uniting floor coverings production on a single site.

The location of the future sawmill has not been set yet, Barlinek S.A. exports specialist Monica Lesish.

Barlinek S.A. was established in 1946, privatized in 1999. Barliner S.A. enterprises employ a total of 1 thousand workers.
