cent in 2006 to 21,000, following a year of stagnation.

last year, clocking up 1.9 billion euros in sales. This comfortably
exceeds the previous record total of 1.7 billion euros set up in the
year 2000. Year-on-year, export sales rose by 14.7 per cent. The
average export quota across the industry is currently running at 73 per
cent.
Domestic sales
The German market for woodworking machinery is also experiencing a
strong revival. For the past three years domestic sales have once again
been contributing to the positive overall trend within the industry.
Last year German manufacturers increased their sales to the home market
by 27.5 per cent to 700 million euros, thus further strengthening their
leading position in their most important single market. Together with
the skilled trades and the furniture industry, the booming sawmill
industry accounted for a large proportion of this increase.
Some 21,000 employees in 220 German companies produced woodworking
machines and tools to the value of approx. 3.7 billion euros in 2006.
