Strong price increases in Norway on saw timber
A vigorous market for sawn wood in Norway will result in price
increases for saw timber. Since the turn of the year there have been
two price increases totalling 120 NOK (15 ˆ) per cubic metre.
There are strong indications that the trend of decreasing real prices
for timber will now turn to an increase enabling forest owners to
increase net profits.
There are two positive elements, which give reasons for optimism also
in the longer term. One is the vigorous market both in Norway and in
most parts of Europe for sawn timber. The other is the lively debate
concerning the environment and the climate change which results in a
stronger position for wood as a renewable, energy effective and climate
neutral energy source.
The strong price increase of saw timber is expected to result in considerable increases of felling in the future.
