Estonia: More than 10 million trees were planted this year in the state forest
According to Toomas Väät, Silviculture Head Specialist of RMK, volunteers were very much interested in forest planting as usual, especially school children. We are glad that traditions continue and school children come to plant forests. The 16 May forest planting day of RMK was also attended by several companies and many forest friends who came alone or with their families, said Toomas Väät, according to whom almost 100 000 plants were planted in the state forest by volunteers this year. RMK thanks all participants of the forest planting days once again.
In total, this spring, new forest was planted on 3740 hectares in the state forest; 10.1 million transplants were planted: 5.7 million spruces, 3.5 million pines and 0.5 million birches. In East-Viru County, nearly 400 000 pines and birches were planted for the reforestation of exhausted oil shale quarries. Forest was planted on 490 hectares and natural renewal helped on 150 hectares.
