Italian woodworking machinery exports increased 13% for the first half of 2004

The Italian export of woodworking machinery and technologies confirms its positive trend: in the period between January and June 2004, exports have grown by 13% as compared to the same period in 2003, reaching 611 million Euro.

According to Acimall (the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers' association), in Q1 2004 the Italian woodworking machinery industry recorded great expansion in the Middle and Far East (+80.6% and 56%, respectively) and in Eastern Europe (+20.7%).

Thanks also to the recovery of some markets that have always been particularly receptive for ‘made in Italy’ technology — such as France (Italian exports grew by 25 percent there) and Spain (+31.0 percent) — sales within the European Union recorded a 12.5% increase as compared to the first six months of the previous year. Once again, Germany showed an opposite trend: Italian exports recorded a further shrinkage by 5.4%.

With a 13.5% increase, Oceania continued its expansion, while a negative trend was recorded by the Americas (North America -14.7%, Central/South America -28.1%) and Africa (-3.9%).

As to import, in the first six months of the year, Italy bought foreign machinery for a total of 60.6 million Euro, 1.9% less than the same period in 2003. Imports from Germany have remarkably decreased, i.e. by 14.7% as compared to the first six months of 2003. However, with 26 million Euro, German manufacturers represent the most important foreign suppliers of the Italian industry.
