Around 70% of Russian timber available for procession is lost due to the lack of road infrastructure
Around 70% of timber available for procession is lost due to the lack of road infrastructure, Minister of natural resources Yuri Trutnev said at the 2nd Russian-Finnish Forest summit in Helsinki.
The minister said that almost all timber companies are using the roads built before 1991. Among other problems the timber sector is facing Yuri Trutnev mentioned the short-term rent of forest parcels, illegal logging and the lack of production capacities. Short-term rent does not stimulate the companies to provide better forest management and maintenance using modern technologies, to participate in the creation of infrastructure.
