Germany: Disappointing Beech Auction
The roundwood market for beech in Germany is still very weak. The first high value timber auction of the season 2004/05 last week in Hadamar-Grunberg by Hessen-Forst showed results below last year. The average price was 200 Euro/cbm (2003: 211 Euro/cbm). Caused by the weak market the forest owners offered only 1450 cbm. Especially to Chinese buyers this seemed to be to little. In former years more than 3500 cbm were offered at the Hadamar high value timber auction.
Results of 2004:
* average price for logs suitable for sliced veneer: 198.50 Euro/cbm IHB Internationale Holzboerse GmbH
* average price for logs suitable for rotary cut veneer: 217 Euro/cbm – 225 Euro/cbm
* average price for logs diameter up to 49 cm: 131 Euro/cbm
* average price for logs diameter up to 59 cm: 194 Euro/cbm
* average price for logs diameter up to 69 cm: 207 Euro/cbm
* average price for logs diameter up to 79 cm: 250 Euro/cbm
* average price for logs diameter up to 89 cm: 92 Euro/cbm
