Extensive snow damage to forests in Northern Sweden
The
abundant precipitation of heavy wet snow these last days has caused extensive
forest damage, in particular in the Jämtland province in Northern Sweden.
Individual forest owners have suffered damage to as much as 15 % of their
forests. The Swedish Forest Agency says that such extensive snow damage is
unique so early in the season.
The abundant snowfall came so early that there is no ground frost yet. That
makes harvesting very difficult in this area.
