Forest fires wreak more destruction
Eight people have been killed and more than 20,000ha of trees lost in forest fires in Algeria. The fires are raging in 19 regions of northern Algeria. The
level of forestry destruction the is thought to be the worst since
1983, with olive groves, pine trees, oaks and cedar affected. Greece's
forest fires this year are among the worst recorded, while blazes have
also broken out across Croatia and Spain. The hot dry summer and high
winds across the Mediterrannean are blamed for the severity of the
fires.
