Norway secretariat to guide European forest work
Norway
plans to work heavily on climate, water and energy during its four-year
stint in the chair, developing sustainable biofuel principles and using
forests to mitigate climate change and protect against floods and
droughts. This
will be governed by the secretariat and Norway’s forestry minister,
Lars Peder Berkk, and will use the existing framework established by
MCPFE as “solid ground for growth and diversity in today’s forests”. Norway
is also planning to use its four-year stewardship of MCPFE to work on
potential legally binding cross-continental rules and regulations for
forests.
