The negative trends in all of the furniture sector, which has been in regressing continually in Germany from
1996 to 2001, have also been the same for the self-assembly furniture sector, with a drop in 2001 of 1.5%, coming down to €5.810 million. The forecast does not show any positive signs, for 2002 and there is talk of a loss of around 8%. Last year, however, the furniture industry increased its market share, by 41. on the total of home furniture (compared to 39.9% of 2000). The number of the suppliers on the German market,on the other hand, increased in 2001 by 16, reaching 736. As regards suppliers from abroad, the percentage has gone up by 47.5% (of these, 11% are Italian). The most successful category is the upholstery sector at 14.8% and the dinning-room closets at 10,4%.
