High demand lifts prices for Brazilian pine plywood

Since September, high demand in the US market, mainly for pine plywood, has lifted prices. Better prices in the US market made pine plywood producers reduce their exports to Europe, causing price increase in the European market as well.

From January to September of 2003, pine plywood exports added up to US$ 220.5 million, 59.5% more than in the equivalent period of last year (US$ 138.3 million). Over the January-September period 2003, Brazil exported US$ 173.0 million in tropical plywood, 1.8% more than in the same period of 2002 (US$ 170.0 million).
