Indonesia sets target to plant 1.6 billion trees each year
"The new tree planting program
would initially be implemented next year and is expected to be
continued in the following years," Production Supervision Deputy at
Forestry Ministry Hadi Daryanto was quoted as saying by the Antara news
agency, when accompanied the forestry minister's visit in West Bali
National Conservation Park (TNBB). "The ministry would implement various tree planting methods aimed at preserving the natural forest areas," he added.
According to the deputy, Indonesia
has 126.8 million hectares of forest area that consisted of natural
conservancy area 32.4 million hectares, limited log production 21.6
million hectares, conversion forest 23.2 million and
production-conversion forest 14million hectares. Due to the high cost to finance the
program, the government would involve the public to take part in the
reforestation program.
