Softwood lumber sales in France largely stable at the outset of 2010
Even before the turn of the year, Scandinavian shippers’ delivery
problems and the ensuing short supply on the French softwood lumber
market enabled central European suppliers to acquire market shares in
some regions. According to German and Belgian shippers, this has given
rise to a slight improvement in the sales situation. After French
lumber buyers had already been acting increasingly cautiously on the
market in November/December and had concentrated on buying in urgently
required supplementary volumes, at the beginning of the year there is
now evidently a greater need to top up again.
