Bio-energy is more important than Swedes believe
In
a poll made on the subject 82 % of the interviewed persons
participated. 52 % of them believe that bio-energy represents less than
20 % of total energy consumption in Sweden. As many as 34 % believe
that the figure is less than 10 %.
A majority of Swedes grossly underestimate the importance of
bio-energy for the country's energy supply. Only a few of them know
that bio-energy constitutes as much as 29 % of our energy supply.
The conclusion is that 70 % of all Swedes do not know or that they
underestimate the importance of bio-energy. Only 15 % believe that the
percentage figure is higher than what it really is.
In a press release Mr Gustaf Melin, managing director of "Svebio", the
Swedish bio-energy association, says that the weak knowledge of the
importance of bio-energy proves that our branch has not succeeded in
informing the public of our activities. Deficient knowledge is a
political problem. It is difficult to make the right decisions about
energy supply when voters do not know the real situation.
